چکیده

Disc herniation is a major reason for lower back pain (LBP), it cost the United Kingdom (UK) government over £1.3 million per day. In fact a very high proportion of the UK population will complain from their back pain. Furthermore, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is one of the main diagnosing procedure for LBP. Automatic disc labeling in the MRI to detect the herniation area will reduce the required time to issue the report from the radiologist. We present a method for automatic labeling for the lumbar spine disc area using the axial view MRI based on the pixels coordinate and gray level features. We use a clinical MRI for the training and testing. Moreover, the accuracy and the reconstructed images was the main indicator for our result. The highest achieved accuracy was 98.9 and 91.1 for Weighted KNN and Fine Gaussian SVM respec-

Automated segmentation of lumbar vertebral bodies and intervertebral discs from MRI using statistical shape models

Introduction Computer aided diagnosis, therapy planning or image guided surgery of spinal injuries and degeneration (intervertebral disc (IVD) prolapse or herniation, cartilage degeneration, vertebral fractures) has the potential to aid many orthopaedic, neurological and oncological applications where precise segmentation of the spinal anatomy is beneficial. MRI offers an ideal modality for sim...

Concomitance of Obesity and Overweight with Disc Height and Disc Herniation in Lumbar Spine

Background & Aim: Low back pain is the most debilitating condition, and can lead to decreased physical function, compromised quality of life, and psychological distress. Several studies have been conducted to recognize the risk factors of low back pain, but despite of strong relationship between obesity and low back pain, the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Fluoroscopically-guided injections to treat "kissing spine" disease.

BACKGROUND Any spine structure that is innervated by afferent nociceptive nerve fibers is a potential pain generator. In the lumbar spine, the most studied pain generators include: sacroiliac joints, the zygapophysial joints, the intervertebral discs, myofascial structures. Anomalous lumbosacral articulations, the spinous processes, and lumbar spine osteophytes are less commonly reported. OBJ...

Noninvasive cumulative axial load may induce intervertebral disc degeneration-A potential rabbit model

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is considered to be the main cause of many spinal disorders; however, its underlying pathophysiology is not clearly understood. Recent studies indicate that excessive mechanical loading may serve a major role in the initiation of IDD. The aim of the present study was to explore the effect of noninvasive cumulative axial loading on the intervertebral discs ...
